I have been a professional in the mortgage industry for over 17 years.
At the age of 17, I took part in a high school co-op program where my initial duties were to handle simple clerical duties for a local mortgage broker in order to gain credits towards my high school diploma. This opportunity ended up being the catalyst for what would be the beginning of an amazing and educational journey. During those first years I was very fortunate to work with an amazing group of people who quickly recognized my strong commitment and unwavering work ethic. The gamble that they took on me proved to be a correct one, as I spent 13 years of my mortgage career with my first employer.
By the time I was 27 I had become the Vice President of the company. I was responsible for over 100 employees and 15 multi-state branch locations. During my 13-year tenure with the company we achieved many impressive milestones for a small to medium sized mortgage brokerage. We assisted thousands of individuals in realizing their dream of becoming a homeowner and helped thousands more manage their mortgage finances.
We specialized and focused our lending efforts on a niche market of clientele that saw the value in our one-on-one service and commitment to urban lending. Our efforts resulted in delivering simplistic financing opportunities and making home-ownership affordable, regardless of the borrowers credit profile. We established a competitive and profitable franchise platform that increased production to record levels while also creating new entrepreneurs out of everyday mortgage loan originators. We accomplished these, as well as many more milestones, with a fraction of the staff, budget and resources readily available to our larger competitors.
In mid 2011, a decision had to be made on what to do next. There had been many regulatory changes to our industry because of the economic disaster related to mortgage backed securities. Mortgage lending was changing and many professionals were in denial or hard-pressed to change their ways. After 13 years of sitting behind a desk, it was clearly a time for change. Over the years I had accumulated an education of immense proportions in operations and management. It was now time to take my theories, experiences, successes and failures, and apply them as a consultant to prospective homebuyers and homeowners. Our industry was in need of a "makeover" and I wanted to be a part of that transition.
